Tulum

Tulum is both, an archeological park and a stunning beach location. This ancient Mayan city-state real name is "Zama", which means "dawn", and it began to be called Tulum by local people after its decline. The name Tulum means "wall", and it is refered to as such because the city is enclosed by a city wall.

Tulum is a highly international visited site. It is located about 86 miles (130 km) south of Cancun, about 38 miles south of Playa del Carmen (60km) and about 2 miles north of the town of Tulum. The site is open everyday from 8 AM to 5 PM with an entrance fee of around $4 and about a $3 dollar charge for video or picture taking. There are plenty of buses around Playa del Carmen, and Cancun that can take you here, or you can drive yourself in a four lane 1st world highway system.

Tulum is possibly one of the world's most reknown archeological parks. The reason for its fame has to do with its stunning location. It is situated next to a cliff overlooking the crystal clear Caribbeaan sea. Tulum used to be a sort of merchant trading port, Mayan boats used to depart from here to the island of Cozumel.
