This is an eye catching fountain that depicts three women carrying a fruit bowl. Despite the structure not being that old, it has become a symbol of the city of Morelia. It is located a few blocks away from the cathedral.

If you can find the right location near the fountain, every way you look there are beautiful sights.

On one side is the aqueduct, on another one can see the Fray Antonio road, and on another there is a beautiful garden. One of my favorite pictures is one with the fountain and the aqueduct in the background. Imagine having two of the places that most identify Morelia in one picture. Now lets talk about the fountain's history. It was built in 1937 as gift to the Mexican president of the time, Lazaro Cardenas, because he liked indigenous culture.

The Tarascas

At the beginning, the town’s people opposed the fountain because the woman in the image showed their breasts. However, it is now a beloved fountain by the locals. The tree women depicted in the fountain represent three indigenous "Purapecha" princesses and are a symbol of abundance. By the way, The “Purapechas” is an indigenous group from the state of Michoacán. Years after having been placed, it was removed and another fountain took its place. The locals wanted the old one back and demanded that the governor return it. Despite the current bronze fountain not being the original, it is still lovely.
