This construction has been declared a National Monument by the government of Mexico. It's a very nice construction made out of limestone with very colorful patios. From the outside, you can perceive a Neoclassic decoration, while the inside has a Baroque style.
If you are wondering why this place has a special importance, it's because one of the key organizers of Mexico's Independance War from Spain, was born here. His name was: "Jose Maria Morelos", by which the this city of "Morelia" has been named after.
However, take note that the original structure were Morelos was born, has been demolished, and this one has been constructed it its place.
Morelo's Birthplace
It is now a Museum, in it, you can find a collection of items that belonged to Morelos, read about his history, and his contributions to the Independence Movement. Even though, this place is a little bit off the main gathering point of the city, it's still at walking distance, and if you're already in Morelia, then you should definitely come and experience history first hand.
