This is one of my favorite places. After having visited the temple and rose conservatory, what better place to relax than in this colorful plaza. There are many beautiful gardens, trees, cafes, and a fountain in the center.
There are two statutes. One is of the famous writer, Miguel de Cervantes de Saavedra. The other is of Don Vasco de Quiroga, who was one of the first Spanish Franciscan missionaries in Michoacán to Christianize the indigenous of the region. This friar fought for the dignity of the indigenous, which made him very well liked by the town’s people.
