You can find this impressive Cathedral in the center of the city. It shows the richness that existed in Morelia. Without a doubt, it’s the building in the historic center of the city that most catches your attention.
Its towers are considered to be the tallest out of the cathedrals in the region. Sometimes the towers can be seen from other parts of the city.
On each side of the towers there is a space for a clock, totaling eight. Its construction began in the middle of the 17th century and lasted until1744.
The exterior of the cathedral is made with rose colored limestone, as well as the railing which surrounds it and lies over the same type of stone. The railing has three doors of entry which further adorn the cathedral.
Morelia's Cathedral
They will make you want to see the cathedral from the inside and trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
From the interior it’s a bit mysterious and dark, yet it won’t scare you. It has two beautiful altarpieces; one in the center and the other in the tabernacle. There are also many neoclassic altars. These altarpieces were previously made in a different style, but during the Reform War, many things were destroyed and later replaced with a different decoration. My favorite part of the cathedral is the huge 4000 pipe organ. If you’re lucky enough during your visit, you might hear a classical music concert with this organ, it’s incredible.
