This house will give you an idea of the riches and splendour that Morelia enjoyed in epochs past. This is a spectacular mansion constructed by the second half of the 18th century.

It's a very elegant design, where the window frames are carved out of pink hued stone quarry polished for fine smoothness, while the rest of the house has been painted white. The external style, in line with many of the structures that we have seen in Morelia, is Neoclassic, while the internal decoration is Baroque.

Like most of the buildings in Morelia, this building too has a place in Mexico's history. It was in this building that the first meetings were held for the purposes of achieving independence from Spain. The owner of the house, Don Garcia Obeso, also actively participated in these secret reunions.

Eventually, the secret plans were discovered, and all the participants were incarcerated by the Spanish government.

Currently this old house is used as a private bank, but you can still walk in as a tourist and enjoy its internal beautiful decoration.
