The name of the bay translates from Spanish into “Saint Augustine’s Bay”. To get to this bay..oh my God, its quite an odyssey, you may indeed need the help of a saint. You have to drive away and outside the city of “crucesita”. Its about a 30 minute paved drive north-west. Then you make a left into a dirt roadway. From that point on, it’s about 40 minutes, but it ends up being a lot more because of the road conditions. You drive and you drive, you pass road bump, after road bump..by the way you don’t need a four by four or anything as such, I had a two door hatchback, and it was just fine. The problem is not the condition of the dirt road, but the length of it. It’s pretty far. You will encounter a small settlement of rudimentary houses, sort of like a village, and you may think that you are there, but you are not there yet, the beach is still a bit more of the way, your only halfways.
After you drink the coconut water make sure you ask the service to “prepare you your coconut”, they already know what this means. Next thing, they will ask you if you want hot-sauce on it, and how much. Say yes and then say a lot. They will cut the white edible part of the coconut for you and serve it on a plate for you with salt, and lime on the side. You may not have been able to infer this by going to “Mexican” restaurants in the U.S.A, but coconuts are a must eat food for Mexicans (when ever they are out on the beach).
