This theater represents the cities rich history and splendor during the 19th Century. Its construction began in 1872 and did not end until 1903, when it was inaugurated by the president of the era: Porfirio Dias.
Many styles of art adorn this theatre.
Its façade is neo-classical, formed with 12 canter columns in a style called Roman Doric. In the upper part of the theater, bronze Greek mythological statues of women stand out.
As one walks up the stairs towards the entrance, you encounter 2 lion bronze statutes, as if guardian the theater. Inside, one can marble at the gorgeous Arabic style ceilings, the tea rooms where the wealthy men and women of the time would occupy during intermission, as well as the bar with precious French crystals.
Xuarez Theater
One can take a tour of the theatre, which will tell you all about the history. I recommend it.
The Theater boasts a 1100 person capacity. It’s a great stage for quality plays, especially during the Cervantino international festival. Once visiting the theatre, don’t waste a chance to sit on the stairs, have a beverage, and enjoy the street acts, mime performances, or simply surf the web to find the next great place to visit in Guanajuato!
