This is a triangularly shaped plaza where many important buildings are located. Among them are the Basilica of our lady of Guadalupe, the Municipal Palace and the Supreme Court. You will be impressed by the amount of classic styled buildings surrounding you.

At the center of the plaza is a garden with a sculpture. The sculpture is named, “Monumento a la Paz,” which translates to, a monument for peace.

It depicts a women above a sphere, with children surrounding her. The sphere represents the world, and was constructed at the end of the war for Mexico's independence from Spain. The plaza was inaugurated in 1903.

This plaza was made to honor Peace

On one side of the plaza, coffee shops and restaurants are located, where one can sit in the patios and enjoy the tranquil surroundings, a coffee, a local dish or even a good glass of wine. I recommend trying the “enchiladas mineras,” a delicious Guanajuato dish consisting of cheese filled tortillas, accompanied by chicken, vegetables and cheese.
